How will the universe end?
Let's face it.Everything eventually comes to end and our universe is no exception.
So how will the universe end?
There are many theories proposed by cosmologists.Some interesting ones are discussed.
It's now widely accepted that the universe is flat and is continuously expanding.Cosmologists can't actually predict the extent till which the universe will expand.
Imagine a balloon filled with air.The balloon inflates till is maximum capacity.If you continue filling it with air it pops.Same is the case with our universe.
Till the space-time fabric can hold our universe, it will.But as the universe is continuously expanding, the balloon will surely pop some day, shredding every piece of matter it contains.
The next one is not as dramatic as the earlier one.
The next theory suggests that after a looooong time, say a couple of billion years later, our only energy source the SUN will die and turn into a red dwarf.Also, our galaxy will move away from the center of the universe and eventually will be isolated from rest of the universe.
There would be no other source of energy and so the earth will freeze and so would we.
The next one has got a pretty interesting name to it its called "The Big Crunch"
It's the opposite of Big Bang.
The universe will keep on expanding till a certain limit.This limit is not known.After the limit is reached the universe will collapse.This means every piece of matter will fall on to one another thus compressing the universe.
A point will come when all of our universe will be concentrated in a piece of matter which will be less in size than an atom, followed by Big Bang.
Imagine a rocket.You try to launch it from the earth into the space.But if the fuel powering it runs out,the rocket falls back to the launch pad.
So if we actually think it through, what it implies is the universe goes through this perpetual cycle of
expanding and collapsing.
